New Kids on the Blockchain – Music Pool Berlin Community Evening X BMC Backstage @ STATION-Berlin
May 2 @ 18:00 – 21:00

This Music Pool Berlin community evening @ rpTEN is about the potential of the blockchain technology for the music business. In general, the Music Pool Berlin community evenings provide a platform for musicians to find out more about current music business topics, and get to know each other and other players in the music scenes. This evening at rpTEN is organized in cooperation with the Berlin Music Commission and its networking format BMC backstage.

INPUT & DISCUSSION: NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCKCHAIN

The blockchain technology is said to be a game changer, a technology with the potential to considerably affect different parts of life and economy. While the hype about the digital currency bitcoin, that is also based on the blockchain technology, seems to have calmed down – this seems to have been just a small start of a much bigger movement that is currently forming all over the world in different thematic areas.

So how does the decentralized database technology blockchain actually work? And what is its potential and relevance for the music business in particular?

Our guest, Steffen Holly of Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technologies IDMT, argues that the blockchain technology does not immediately give a solution to pressing issues such as the metadata confusion of the music industry. However it does provide answers to questions of innovative models to rights management and payments of creative works such as music (and other digitally published works).

Katalogpräsentation und Soundperformance
3. Mai 2016, 20:30 Uhr

Liebe Freunde,

Catalog presentation and Sound-performance
3 May 2016, 8.30pm

Dear Friends,
Image Movement is delighted to host an evening with Christian Jendreiko.

»Christian Jendreiko’s actions are models in a powerful sense […]
They are about speaking, thinking, acting and playing together as if we already lived in a liberated society; liberated, released from the fittings, from the constraints of roles and identities in bourgeois society. They are not the practices of one outstanding (artist) subject but of a group, a collective intelligence, a general intellect, as Marx would call it. That which was always meant by avant-garde in its various forms through history, the transition of art into life and into the everyday — this is the aim or implication of such actions. A communism of the mind is practiced or rehearsed. The modality of its actions is pre-figurative; its social form is not that of the independent, self-sufficient subject (and its mirror image, the autonomous artwork), but rather that of a coming community of singular individuals, who collectively try out new forms of Being-with (Mitsein).«
[Michael Hirsch]

Christian Jendreiko lives and works in Düsseldorf. He is part of hobbypopMUSEUM, he has numerous book, magazine and catalog publications. Records were released by Flesh Records, London, Apparent Extent, Cologne, or Edition Hobbypop, Düsseldorf et al. His collaborations include Little Annie, Khan, The Typicals, Uwe Schmidt, Stefan Werni or Paulick/Reihse/Weinrich among others. »12 Kosmische Beispiele« is the catalog-version of his eponymous series of researches in art space Berger Kirche Düsseldorf that run for 2 years.

Arbeit Schickert Schneider – ASS – Drei Gitarristen, drei Generationen, ein gemeinsames Album live | Badehaus Berlin @ Badehaus Berlin
May 4 @ 17:00 – 20:00

Aubrey´s sets and productions are well known for their sophisticated, jazzy, trippy and soulful vibe. As one of the pioneers of the UK scene, he´s drawing the perfect line between techno and house.

Aubrey started recording at a young age in 1990 for Sheffield label Ozone Recordings under the name of Panic with a release called “Voices Of Energy”, which was then licensed to Buzz in Belgium, Buzz 001. Buzz then went on to release classics by Carl Craig and Derrick May.

Aubrey set up his own label in the same year – Solid Groove Records. The label had 30 vinyl releases over thirteen years and tracks were licensed by Derrick May, Terry Francis, Pete Tong, Adam X, and Carl Cox. As well as this he ran four other labels – Textures,Dark, DOT, and Cheap Knob Gags.

At the age of twelve he became an avid bedroom DJ which taught him the skills that have taken him through a successful and professional career spanning twenty-two years. From his first residency at the Portsmouth club Central Park at eighteen, he soon found himself in London spinning next to Carl Cox, Groove Rider, Colin Dale, Mr. C etc, at such raves as Energy, Raindance, and clubs such as The Astoria, The Gardening Club, The Pirate Club, The Marquee, Turnmills, Deep Space, Ministry Of Sound, Mr. C’s Release partyies and residencies for Fantasy FM and the famous south coast club Sterns.

His music tastes are very varied with his first love of Hip Hop as a teenager, moving quickly onto the emerging Acid House scene from Chicago and then to Detroit Techno and New York House. Due to working in record shops he has a big knowledge of all three genres.

Aubrey played at Berghain, Tresor, Space Moscow, Space Ibiza, Suicide Circus, Ipse, Berns Stockholm, About Blank, Barba Zagreb, Showcase Paris, Badaboum Paris, DV1 Lyon, Blackout Madrid, Miniclub Valancia, Moog Barcelona, The Kitchen Dublin, The Loft Lausanne, Outergaze Tokyo, Lust Tokyo, Pop Com Cologne, Cocoon Zürich, Astoria London, Zook Singapore, Movement Kuala Lumpur, 10 of Techno Ghent, etc.

Back in the days the medium Radio was a super important, formative medium for all of us.
In terms of digitalisation and the overflow of music in general, Daniela La Luz felt the approach to create an own and more informative radio show, instead of just inviting an artist to play a mix.

Having a deeper chat with our changing, international guests, we give you more insights into their musical careers, the scene from where they come from, their backgrounds and their selection of music being played on our show. Quality instead of quantity is our device.

A Coral Room // XJAZZ Festival 2016 @ Monarch Berlin
May 5 @ 17:00 – 20:00

Phoebe Killdeer & The Shift (GER // Altin Village & Mine)
»Record Release Show«

05.05.2016
Doors: 20:00
Start: 21:00
at Monster Ronson’s Ichiban Karaoke, Berlin

Phoebe Killdeer & The Shift is the collaboration between newly Berliner Phoebe Killdeer (Nouvelle Vague, The Short Straws) with experimental musicians Thomas Mahmoud-Zahl (SFX, The Nest, Tannhäuser Sterben & das Tod, Von Spar) and Ole Wulfers (Kapaikos, Party Diktator), supported by actress and singer Maria de Medeiros (i.e. »The Saddest Music in the World«, »Pulp Fiction«).

»The Piano’s Playing The Devils Tune« is »free music« in a most emphatic sense: The interplay between the abstract instrumentation on the one hand, equally recalling genres as diverse as noise rock, bass music and musique concrète, as well as the intimate, concrete humanity of the sound on the other hand establishes a sprawling sonic space that gravitates around the haunting vocal passages of Killdeer and de Medeiros. »The Piano’s Playing The Devils Tune« thereby succeeds in combining a decidedly experimental gesture with an urgent, uncanny familiarity and warmth; a precise sense of composition with an almost lavish casualness.

Phoebe Killdeer & The Shift do not resolve the numerous paradoxes that mark »The Piano’s Playing The Devils Tune«: The result is an equally challenging and rewarding album that in fact—as played out as this predicate may be—truly defies categorization. Devils tunes.

„Die Stärkere“ @ Brotfabrik Berlin
May 5 @ 18:00 – 21:00

TANZBERG OPEN AIR – UMSONST & DRAUSSEN

Super Flu (MONABERRY, HALLE)
Dr. Motte (LOVEPARADE, BERLIN)
Bebetta (MONABERRY, BERLIN)
Elektrodrei (TANZBERG, BONN)
Nick Lase (LUSTIG WANDERN, BONN)

Berlin Safari with Rättbuss ( Sweden) @ Berlin
May 6 @ 16:00 – 19:00

Berlin Safari

Media images and cultural places in urban space – visions, examples and difficulties. A tour about and with Orten i Fokus, Haus der Statistik, Haus Schwarzenberg and RAW/CC.

Follow on an excursion through Berlin’s urban spaces, through the light and darkness of media and from great visions to denigrating images. We will visit and hear more from all participants, with a continuing common discussion about strategies, visions, strategies and power within the city and media.

Participants:

Orten I Fokus
Orten i Fokus is an association from Stockholm, Sweden. Through being a meeting place, its purposes are to support culture in various Million Program suburbs, strengthen the local identity and encourage individuals to actively participate in society and existing democratic processes. The association aims at being part of creating a society where people’s terms and prerequisites aren’t depending on his or hers home district, ethnic origin or socio-economic background.

Käthe Bauer (RAW/CC)
Raw/CC is an artistic association situated on the RAW premises in Friedrichshain, Berlin. Their goal is to create space for artistic production, cultural diversity and social engagement within this area through a democratic, economic and organizational fundamental idea. They are working to maintain the area’s character and buildings put under preservation order. In addition, they try to engage the neighboring residents and actors as well as other cultural actors to create a sustainable collaboration.

Simon Wöhr (Initiative Haus der Statistik / c/o Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik)
In connection to a workshop completed by Berlin’s senate for urban development on the subject of structural reevaluation of Alexanderplatz, a group of different Berlin initiatives was created. These in turn developed a concept for utilization of the empty building, which previously was home to Berlin’s statistical department. The various building elements, with a total area of around 40.000 sqm usable space, are to form a solid structural substance in the shape of homes for refugees as well as work spaces for art, culture and education. Everything accomplished in a cost-effective manner. The building is a prototype for an innovative, integrative praxis in collaboration with culture, education and social issues. Through deconstruction of two low buildings, 50.000 sqm additional floor space will be created. This meaning possibilities to build well-needed, cheap homes. We will have the chance to hear about visions and strategies surrounding the initiative directly on site.

Rebecca Lilliecrona ( Haus Schwarzenberg / Neurotitan Galerie)
Haus Schwarzenberg is a space in the middle of Berlin’s commercial centre, which is a mixture of culture, art and history. The association turned 20 years in 2015. In immediate connection to the celebrations, the contract for the house expired. During a short presentation the association will present how they managed to extend the contract with 10 years, and about the way to get there.

More to be announced.

——————————————

The trip is planned and conducted by the Swedish cultural association RättBuss. With their bright yellow bus filled with sofas, flowers, glitter and a bar they’ve driven numerous people to and from various festivals and parties as well as they’ve had several different events on board. Unfortunately the RättBuss-bus itself was damaged and therefore a chartered travelling bus will be used for this trip instead of the original. Despite this situation we will get a short presentation of the association and their idea to create an event space on wheels.

We will finish up back at BLO ateliers, where the night continues with concerts by The Teamsters (London, UK) – The Blow-Ups (Berlin) – The Vagoos (Rostock)

The safari is free of charge, but the concerts at BLO ateliers cost 5 € (Special price for our passenger! Regular price: 8 €)
There’s a bar on board!
