Studies show that police officers are more likely to kill themselves than to be killed in the line of duty. The National P.O.L.I.C.E. Suicide Foundation estimates that approximately 500 police officers committed suicide in 2003. According to experts, most officers use a gun to kill themselves, suffer from depression, have stress in their family and work life, and are drunk when they commit suicide.
