DEEPDEPARTURES FROM TORONTO

Here we go. 1. who runs the label and why did you start? The label is ran by Jason Graham from Toronto Canada. I started the label out of love for deep music from house to tech-house to deep techno. I always wanted a label that I could produce my own stuff and pick my own collection of DJ’s and producers that make some of the finest music out there. 2. what is the rooster, how did it come together and who are those people? The rooster consists of some of the finest underground producers/dj’s that I respect a lot, from Dan Curtin legendary for super fine house/techno along with the likes of Titonton Duvante with this fat beats and chord combinations to Tom Churchill out of Glasgow, Scotland that lays down some deep tech-house. Warren Harris aka Hanna one of the best hidden gems of this underground world. Smooth deep jazz/tech-house damn. I have recently got some tracks from Pawel Kobak out of Barcelona Spain, one producer I really like his style of jazzy house to his deep tech-house, amazing stuff. .I had a lot of people help me out by hooking me up with contact info to some of the producers on the label. I like to thank Mr. J.Tejada for hooking me up with Titonton and Dan Curtin and all the other stuff and Dan Curtin for helping me out with all that jazz. Respect 3. what is your musical vision for the label? The musical vision is a combination of deep Detroit sounds. From deep house/techno to get down tech-house shake your ass. The label is inspired by a lot of Detroit style music; I have a real love for Detroit and the sounds that come out of the motor city.I don’t want the label to be put into a general type of music category, because I like all styles of house/techno. From old electronic stuff like Stasis, B12, Black Dog to some of the deepest Chicago / Detroit / New York / San Francisco house. I want to appeal to all those people that love the producers on the label and deep music whatever style it is. 4. what is your idea on other media (design/internet/etc.) and how and for what do you use them? I use the Internet a lot, I think it’s the best tool to use to reach a wide range of people especially for music. Best way of getting it to people from around the world. I do it all on my own. Website design to label art so for me I need all this multimedia/internet stuff. I find that once someone comes to your website you have to give them a level of entertainment from visual to sound. I put up 1 to 2 min samples of all the tracks on the label, so people can hear them before they are out in stores. Get them ready for the next departure. 5. where would you situate yourself in the universe of electronic music labels, who do you like to be associated with? Damn there is a lot of good record labels out there I don’t know who I would situate myself with. I will let the people buying the records decide that. I would like to be associated with just putting out some of the finest deep house and techno out there. The record labels I have respect for are Metamorphic, Residual, Headspace and Route 33/45, Naked Music, 20:20 Vision, Peacefrog, Palette etc, too many to list. From house to techno that’s what I love. url: deepdepartures.com city: Toronto Canada contact: info@deepdepartures releaseplans: Tom Churchill in August then CD/2X12″ Hanna, Joe Silva and Pawel Kobak in November Titonton Duvante – Eroticism EP (Deep Departures/001) Purveyors of Fine Funk – The Thing EP (Deep Departures/002)
