Mutek ruft um Unterstützung. Lasst sie rocken.
Mit Sicherheit kennen die meisten von euch Mutek, das Festival, dass in Kanada soviel für die minimale Elektronische Musik geschafft hat wie sonst kaum ein zweites Event in Amerika und mit dem DEMF und Sonar zurecht in einem Atemzug genannt wird. Viele der kanadischen Acts, die wir alle so mögen, holen sich dort jedes Jahr ihren nötigen Kick, um weiter zu machen. Damit es stattfinden kann, braucht Mutek allerdings möglichst viele internationale Supporter und ruft euch alle auf, ihnen Briefe zu faxen, damit sie auch dieses Jahr vom Staat die notwendige Unterstützung bekommen. Hier also ihr Aufruf, und ja, wir würden das unterschreiben und tun es natürlich selbst auch: Call to MUTEK’s friends! The MUTEK team is currently in the production process for our fourth edition which will run from the 28th May to June 1st 2003. As part of the process we will once again be applying for government funding and we would like to request that our supporters and friends lend us a hand. Some of our international friends may be unaware that Quebec and Canadian governmental organizations routinely support music festivals and non-profit arts organizations. There is substantial competition for the allotted funds. Though we have provided extensive documentation, it has become clear that governmental organizations do not understand the crucial developmental role MUTEK plays in within the domain of electronic music. As you are most likely aware, MUTEK is a non-profit organization that promotes and supports experimental and independent electronic music and digital culture to a local, national and international public. Our mandate expressly includes the support of non-mainstream electronic music, and artist and audience development. Despite the festival’s success, MUTEK remains a fragile structure that continues to exist only due to the ongoing support of a dedicated team and the generous and enthusiastic participation and dedication of a team of volunteers. Our aim in applying for public funds is to ensure that the mandate and content of MUTEK’s programming is not compromised or diluted by the need to seek inappropriate corporate support. Adequate governmental support would allow us to meet our basic fiscal needs and maintain integrity of programming and continue to support the development of independent and experimental electronic music both at home and abroad. To this end, and as an adjunct to our funding applications, we would like to request that you write a letter that includes the following: – the importance of festivals such as MUTEK on the national and international stage and as part of the international network for digital arts (for those of you who support our efforts but have yet to attend or participate) – the importance of MUTEK vis a vis your experiences with the festival if you have participated or attended – the past, present and future role that MUTEK has in relationship to the domain of electronic music both in terms of creative and economic development of artists, labels and associated concerns – the impact of the event on artists and artist development, audience development, media sensitization, and the creation of a context that encourages professional development and exchange in the domain of electronic music Your efforts would greatly enhance our ability to prove MUTEK’s impact upon the domain of electronic music and help us to ensure that we can continue to be a productive and relevant platform for non-mainstream electronic music. We would greatly appreciate receiving your letters of support before March 5rd to append to our applications for funding but fully understand if this deadline is unrealistic for you. Letters of support received after this date are still greatly appreciated as we can append them as late editions to our funding applications.
