The debut album from Red Box Recorder on Acroplane Recordings makes a statement of intent. Setting his sights on nothing less than world domination and political hegemony, this London-based producer uses the medium of wonky electronica to indoctrinate the masses. Ranging from ravetastic workouts to meditative soundscapes, and embracing everything in between, this is music designed to surprise, delight and induce total brain meltdown – for free!
The emphasis here is not on technical wizardry but composition – a considered attempt to create something new out of the familiar components of techno, dubstep, live instrumentation and, er, a touch of classical. Whether it works or not is for listeners to decide, but rest assured that this album makes an exciting new contribution to the body of music we politely call “underground”.
