Biomechanical Audio Control

The good son always returns home. Once again, a delightful FMcontrol release for Crazy-Language, keeping the tradition of his broken-beat style of self-created frequency modulation patches and complex musical structure.

What’s different this time around is a certain minimalism felt throghout the songs. There aren’t as many crazy layers as in past releases, working with fewer elements but exploring every single one of them to it’s fullest, resulting in some very interesting cold tunes, sending chills down your spine at every turn. There are recognizable elements of acid techno through some vintage synth lines and drum kits, but the results are definently not what you are thinking.

It’s a tale of two worlds that FM knows how to combine: cheer mechanical prowess alied to the capacity of sending the most creepy feelings throghout your body. Best suited with good headphones and nice stereo system. [F.G.]

Hier kommen die jungen Russen!

Mal locker Rachmaninoff auf einem Flügel darbieten können? Kein Problem für den jungen Moskowiter Phil Gerus, der vor gut zwei Jahren Laptops und Software für sich entdeckte. Mit dem Wissen aus der familieneigenen Jazzband und einem Verständnis von Partitituren fusionierten diese mit Glitch, Funk und Beats zu Stücken, die den jungen Musiker gerade erst einmal vorstellen. Unterbrochen durch einen Aufenthalt in der russischen Armee, der zugleich auch eine Phase der Nichterreichbarkeit bedeutete, kann man dieser Tage allerdings nur sagen: Willkommen zurück. Gespannt auf das weitere Schaffen verheißen schon die acht Titel seines Labeldebuts »Под волной« so einiges.

At One Go

Dren is inspired by old-school analog electronica shows, in which the machines are at the basis of the sound.
The whole set uses digital software directly in MIDI, meaning that although I start  from a certain patch – the progression is variably infinite and never the same as all the changes are made directly on the sound itself (rather than just modifying pre-existing audio with external effects).
Without sticking to a specific musical genre i tried to change my sonic approach each time so that the flow of the tracks is constantly fluctuating and changing as opposed to the solid / defined state of a ‘recorded’ song.
Assigning small tasks to myself, such as trying to emulate vintage analog synths with modern software and making my own synthesized drum kits encouraged me to  exercise using different techniques and to problem solve while improvising. It was also great fun! (XZICD)
